– Youth leaders from immigrant background seeking knowledge and experiences on entrepreneurship and social inclusion work.

– Employees from Civil society organization eager to develop their social work skills and intercultural competencies to better their services for the local disadvantage youngster

Summary

The Capacity Building training for Social workers and volunteers working with immigrants has was conducted between 14-19.10.2019 in Espoo province and 35 social workers, volunteers, and youth leaders participated in the training. To promote the implementation of interactive activities to increase migrants’ participation in educational – social-cultural life and to foster capacity-building of professionals working with migrants on successful integration actions for the target group and intercultural education. Furthermore, participants will have opportunities to develop needed competencies for integrating better into society and working life through the design, development, and piloting of a Competences training programme. Their participation is also considered crucial for the success of the project.

Objectives

The aim was to promote the implementation of interactive activities to increase migrants’ participation in educational – social-cultural life and to foster capacity-building of professionals working with migrants on successful integration actions for the

target group and intercultural education.

The objective was enhancing the capacity of social workers and youth leaders to be able:

– To increase the quality of services offered to migrants in the future.

– To improve levels of skills, awareness for the employability of migrants.

– To enhance civic orientation and active citizenship of migrants.

– To increase opportunities for migrants for professional development.

– To create links between the host society and migrants’ communities.

– To develop competences in dealing with inter-cultural conflicts.

– To promote awareness of the importance of cultural diversity in Europe.

– To increase the opportunities on social and economic inclusion that are available to social

workers and volunteers working with immigrants and disadvantage

– To explore ways of working in partnership with social workers, volunteers, parents, and the local community to renew their efforts to overcome the obstacles to social and economic inclusion.

– To identifying and mapping community vulnerability as way to define and implement keys

proposals and projects from immigrant organizations using nationals and European fund

programmes that benefit young people, particularly those experiencing difficulties.

Outcomes

The impact and results in this Capacity Building training program:

A) Enhanced the capacity of 35 social workers and youth leaders working with disadvantaged groups to provide better services for social entrepreneurship and economic inclusion

B) Increased the ability of the staff of NGOs working with young migrants to influence policy at the local and regional level.

C) Empowered 35 local social workers, volunteers, and youth leaders to better involve young migrants in the decision-making process of their activities.

D) To increase the political influence of young migrants in their communities and regions.

E) Improved local and regional integration policies and the competences of local stakeholders to work together (multi-stakeholders and cross-sectorial initiatives) and with migrants in developing new programs.

F) Supported the integration and the development of a sense of belonging of young migrants in their host communities.

G) Increase the level of the business sector involvement in migrant youth integration
